Choosing a Sport
Kids today have so many choices and are now playing multiple sports year round. Before we wear them, and ourselves out, ask which sport do you really love and let that be a guide.
Confidence is such a key factor in all that we do. As coaches, parents, and teachers we need to continually "fill their sails". A little confidence goes a long long way. I call it Vitamin C.
Play for the love of the game, the joy of the game. Winning has nothing to do with it! The greatest players and coaches played from the heart with a passion, joy, a pure love of the game. Focus on playing and enjoying the winning takes care of itself.
It is always good to have a goal in mind but really that should not be the focus. Playing for the love, joy, and pure enjoyment leads to all of the accolades, accomplishments, scholarships, etc. But when we have a child/parent start out with that in mind it becomes work, it becomes have to instead of want to. We want to be sure to let the love of the game always be a priority.
